Adorable Baby Pandas in the Wild!

Baby pandas, or panda cubs, are incredibly fragile and adorable when born. Here are some general facts about them:

1. Tiny at Birth
Baby pandas are born extremely small, weighing about 100 grams (0.2 lbs) or less. This is about 1/900th the size of their mother, making them one of the smallest newborns relative to their adult size among mammals​(

). They are born pink and hairless, with their signature black-and-white fur pattern developing after about three weeks.

2. Dependence on Their Mothers
Panda cubs are completely dependent on their mothers for survival. In the first few months, they can’t walk or see and spend most of their time nursing or sleeping in their mother’s care. Mother pandas are known for being extremely attentive, constantly holding, grooming, and feeding their babies.

3. Slow Development
Baby pandas develop relatively slowly. They start to open their eyes at around 6 to 8 weeks old and typically begin to crawl at about 3 months. They will stay with their mother for about 18 months to 2 years before becoming independent​(

4. Learning to Eat Bamboo
While panda cubs primarily rely on their mother’s milk for the first six months, they gradually start to chew on bamboo after that. It can take a while before they fully transition to bamboo as their main diet, which is a unique feature of giant pandas.

5. Endangered Status
