Platypus Survived DINOSAURS? 110M-Year-Old Freak!

Platypus, a mammal that lays eggs like a reptile and stings like a scorpion. They are covered in waterproof fur. They sweat milk from belly skin for blind, hairless babies to lap up. That duck bill hides 40,000 electroreceptors to hunt shrimp. They glow green under blacklight a secret only discovered in 2020. The earliest known monotreme fossils, including rat-sized Teinolophos from about 115 million years ago, come from Australia and show platypus-like traits. These predated the dinosaur extinction event by roughly 35 million years, meaning they lived alongside dinosaurs, outlasting dinosaurs in Aussie waters. While the actual modern platypus genus evolved later. A Platypus is definitely a mammal, but a very unique one. It's a monotreme, a special group of egg-laying mammals.
