Elephants Are Scarier Than I Ever Imagined!

I just got back from an African safari that completely changed how I think about the most dangerous animals on the continent. On this trip, I came face to face with members of the “Big Five,” learned why hippos and crocodiles are often deadlier than expected, and discovered which animal truly terrified me the most. From sitting just feet away from wild lions—both during the day and in the dead of night—to learning how elephants actually kill people, this experience pushed my understanding of wildlife safety to the limit.

Along the way, I encountered some of Africa’s most dangerous snakes, saw why the water can be far more dangerous than the land, and explain how zip-lining over massive Nile crocodiles turned out to be the safer option compared to another planned activity. Guided by incredible experts at NDZUTI Bush Camp, this is a firsthand look at surviving close encounters with Africa’s most iconic and dangerous animals.
