The Dendrobates leucomelas, also known as the yellow-banded poison dart frog, is a small, brightly colored amphibian native to Venezuela, Guyana, and Brazil. It thrives in humid tropical forests and is diurnal, actively hunting small insects like ants and termites. Unlike some other poison dart frogs, it can tolerate slightly drier conditions but still requires high humidity to stay healthy. In captivity, it loses its toxicity, as its poison comes from specific alkaloids found in its wild diet.
