In my last tank update, I mentioned I’d be sharing how things were going after correcting a salinity issue—unfortunately, that’s not the update I’m making today. Instead, I discovered a seam failure on my Red Sea Reefer 425 G2, and this is now the second time I’ve dealt with a Red Sea tank leak in the exact same corner.
About two weeks ago, while cleaning the glass, I noticed water getting between the panes—a telltale sign of an aquarium seam failure. This happened to my original Reefer 425XL G1 back in 2022, and almost three years later, the same issue is happening again on the G2. I reached out to Red Sea with photos, and after reviewing everything, they offered me a replacement tank… but only another G2. In this video, I walk through what happened, the timeline, my communication with Red Sea, and why I’m concerned about going through another full reef tank transfer.
If you’re running a Red Sea Reefer system or any large reef tank, I hope my experience helps you spot potential problems early and avoid a major reef tank disaster. This hobby has its highs and lows, and this is definitely one of the moments we never want to face as reef keepers.
Thanks for watching, and feel free to share your own experiences with Reefer seam issues, leaks, or tank replacements in the comments.
