Anteaters are medium-sized insects-eating mammals that can be found in the Southern Hemisphere. Anteaters are edentate creatures, which means they lack teeth. The majority of their meal, which consists of insects, is nonetheless consumed using their lengthy tongues. The most well-known of the four species, the giant anteater, may devour up to 35,000 termites or ants in a single day.
In proportion to its size, the anteater possesses the longest tongue of any animal.
One of the anteater's closest cousins is the pygmy sloth, although their shared ancestor dates back more than 55 million years.
The enormous anteaters' protective coloration includes the appearance of their legs, which resemble panda faces. Due to their similar coloration, newborn anteaters can "vanish" while their mother seems larger.
The large, lengthy, and razor-sharp claws on the paws of all four species force the animals to walk on their knuckles or wrists to prevent self-injury.
