Boo doing his wee-wee trick and trying to laugh on Sunday July 24, and a few days after starting treatment on July 29th. It's like he was trying to cheer us up and tell us he was going to be okay! I knew something was wrong and called to get him in first thing on the 25th.
After just a few days of intensive "bird ICU" treatment, he got his voice back!
He will need to be on antifungals, via oral medicine and steam (nebulized) for at least two more weeks after we take him home this Monday. Then we'll have a follow up appointment, probably x-rays and more bloodwork, and hopefully he'll be off medications (but we're prepared to medicate him longer). Getting over a severe lung infection - airsaculitis - is no joke and we want to make sure that the fungus and/or bacteria that was infecting him is completely wiped out!
I am just so glad that we have a good avian veterinarian out here, and that Boo responded to the medications.
