The top sump is a great way to add more filter capacity to your Discus fish tank. You can use it to just grow some hydroponic plants, add more media, or its an easy way to include resins into you set up making it quick and simple to recharge them without disturbing your main filters.

Building your own top sump is fairly straightforward and this example currently helps keep the nitrate low in this tank as well as growing some nice plants very effectively.
