Doing a simple and consistent water change on the 300-gallon reef tank has proven time and time again to be one of the most important things you can do for the success and growth of a reef tank. In this video i will show you my basic bi-weekly water change using Fritz blue box salt and ro/di water.
My bi-weekly water changes are broken up into two phases. One the main display and two the sump. One week I will focus my attention on the main display by removing excess detritus and cleaning equipment like powerheads. The next water change is two weeks later ill move down to the Geosreef sump and clean detritus, the refugium, and any equipment due to maintenance. This method of doing water changes ensures all my equipment is in working order and also excess nutrients are removed before having a chance to break down and contribute to nitrates and phosphates.
At the end of the day our reef tanks are built around simple and consistent habits and your water change is just one of them.
