During breeding season, Magellanic penguins gather in large nesting colonies on the southern coasts of South America and prefer to build their nests underneath tussocks and tall grasses. These birds often scrape the area clean of vegetation as they gather resources to build their nest. Sometimes, it’s easier for these penguins to steal the stuff they need instead of finding it for themselves.

Magellanic penguins often lay one to two eggs and incubation lasts 39–42 days, a task which the parents share. The chicks are cared for by both parents and are fed every two to three days.

The penguins in this video are part of the species survival plan. Which is a program developed in 1981 by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to help ensure the survival of selected species which are threatened or endangered in the wild.
