Venomous Predators:

Cobras are venomous snakes belonging to the family Elapidae. They are known for their potent neurotoxic venom, which can be deadly to both humans and other animals.

Hooded Appearance:

Cobras are famous for their ability to spread a hood, a loose, elongated skin flap behind the head, as a defensive display. This hood is created by the extension of their ribs and is often accompanied by hissing sounds.

Species Diversity:

There are various species of cobras, and they are found in different regions across Africa and Asia. Some well-known species include the Indian cobra (Naja naja), the King cobra (Ophiophagus hannah), and the Cape cobra (Naja nivea).

King Cobra, the Largest Venomous Snake:

The King cobra holds the title of being the longest venomous snake in the world. They can reach lengths of up to 18 feet (5.5 meters).

Venom Composition:

Cobra venom is primarily neurotoxic, affecting the nervous system of the prey or potential threat. The venom can cause paralysis and, if untreated, can lead to respiratory failure.

Elongated Fangs:

Cobras have fixed, hollow fangs that are shorter than those of some other venomous snakes. They are located in the front of the mouth and can be extended when the snake strikes.

Dietary Preferences:

Cobras are carnivorous and primarily feed on other snakes, rodents, birds, and amphibians. Some species are also known to consume eggs.

Excellent Sense of Sight:

Cobras have well-developed eyesight, which is adapted for hunting and detecting potential threats. They are especially sensitive to movement.

Venomous Spit:

Some cobra species, like the spitting cobras, have the ability to spit venom accurately at the eyes of an approaching threat. This can cause irritation, pain, and even temporary blindness.

Cultural Symbolism:

Cobras have cultural significance in many regions. In some ancient mythologies and religions, they are revered or feared. The cobra is also associated with snake charmers in some parts of the world, where performers use music and movement to interact with these snakes.

Animals are classified into four categories - the vertebrates and the invertebrates. The vertebrates are further divided into mammals, amphibians, reptiles, fish, and birds. All organisms that do not have a backbone come under invertebrates. Animals can also, be categorized as domestic animals and wild animals; also, as herbivores, carnivores and omnivores based on their eating habits.
