Hey sponge filter can commonly Stay Floating when there is air trapped within the sponge. To fix your sponge filter from floating all you have to do is remove the sponge from the assembly and squeeze out all of the air. You may have to hold it underwater and squeeze it in different directions to get all of the bubbles out. Is commonly happens when your sponge filter is brand new and a lot of air is still trapped within the sponge itself.
