Highlight reel from the 2022 Lizard Island Coral Reef Study Tour at the Lizard Island Research Station. This program is an initiative of Station Director Dr Anne Hoggett and was funded and supported by the Lizard Island Reef Research Foundation, with program delivery by Coral Sea Foundation Directors Dr Andy Lewis and Dr Cristiana Damiano.
The program provided an opportunity for NSW public high school students with an aptitude and interest in marine science to come to the Research Station for a 10 day coral reef ecology field course and experience the underwater wonder of the Great Barrier Reef first hand.
At the Coral Sea Foundation, our philosophy has always been grounded in two ideas; firstly, that we can save the world's coral reefs if a lot more people care a lot more about them, and secondly, the best way to develop that emotional connection is to show people see the complexity and beauty of the reef for themselves, and have it blow their minds!
Lizard Island Research Station is one of the best places on the Great Barrier Reef to do that, and we are stoked to have delivered another fantastic reef expedition for an awesome group of up and coming marine biology students over the last 10 days. The future is in their hands, and they are ready to get down to business!
Big thanks to the LICRST 2022 crew - you people rock!
