Tenrecs are small, spiny mammals that inhabit Madagascar, and they indeed resemble hedgehogs. Although they look similar to hedgehogs, they belong to a completely different family of mammals (Tenrecidae). An interesting fact about them is their ability to communicate through sounds that resemble bird chirps, which is quite rare among mammals. Tenrecs use these sounds for communication, especially for social purposes such as warning of danger or communicating within a group.
