In todays video I will be going through 5 threatened and endangered species in the UK. I personally find this topic very interesting as the UK used to be a very different place. The UK was once home to bears wolves and lynx but these large mammals are now all extinct in the UK. The urbanisation and destruction of woodland has led to many of these extinctions and this is why many of the creatures in this video are endangered today.

For our first species we will be heading up to Scotland as we have the Scottish wildcat. The Scottish wildcat is often confused with domesticated cats but is larger and more muscular.

For our next species we will be heading to the freshwaters of the UK as we have the European brook lamprey. Lamprey are very primitive and prehistoric jawless fish and today they are becoming increasingly rare.

For our next species we will be heading back up to Scotland as we have the pine marten. The pine marten was once widespread across great Britain but is now only found in small numbers.

For our next endangered species we will be heading back to great Britain's freshwaters as we have the European eel. The European eel was once common in the Thames but due to climate change and pollution it is now critically endangered worldwide.

For our final endangered species we will once again be heading to Scotland as we have the capercaillie. The capercaillie was once extinct in the UK but was reintroduced and is still struggling.
