We rescued Tartan after we saw him outside, looking for food in the trash. Then, this senior sweetheart's bloodwork revealed that he was FeLV+. But he's still the kindest, most polite gentleman who values scritches above all else.
While Tartan's health is a concern, he's no different than any other sweet and affectionate cat. Our understanding of FeLV is changing as new science emerges, but it's not an immediate death sentence. It affects different cats in different ways, but many FeLV+ cats go on to live active, happy lives. Still, because of Tartan's FeLV status, he should be the only cat in the home or only housed with other positive cats.
Tartan is the sweetest of all sweeties and deserves all the same love and care as his FeLV negative friends. Now, he is headed to foster to stretch out, and will be looking for his forever home very soon.
