While most mammals give birth to live young, monotremes are a bit different. They lay soft-shelled eggs that hatch into little, furry baby kangaroos called joeys.



Now, let's talk about the pouch – one of the most iconic features of kangaroos. After the joey is born and spends time developing in the egg, it crawls its way up into its mommy's pouch and stays there for about six to eight months. During this time, it nurses and grows strong before eventually making its way out of the pouch and onto its mama's teats for additional nourishment.
