Ryukin Goldfish tank mates should consist of similar mannered fish. There are two different types of goldfish in the aquarium hobby. There are single Townhall fish which are consisting of one single tail like the Shubunkin goldfish and common goldfish. And there is the fantail goldfish also referred to as the double tail.

The main difference between the two is that the single tail goldfish is a lot faster of a swimmer and it’s a more vigorous feeder.

This being said the two different types of goldfish should not be kept together. So when trying to figure out good tank mates for the Ryukin, you need to keep them with the same tail type. Ryukin goldfish are double tail goldfish so you need to keep them with other double tails.

By keeping similar tail fish together like this you’re going to ensure that there’s less aggression and they’re going to consume their food at the same pace.
