The mongoose is one of the animals most frequently involved in fights with venomous snakes. Despite being relatively small in size, venomous snakes should be able to quickly kill a mongoose using their venom. However, the mongoose is one of the small mammals that can't be easily underestimated by venomous snakes. Mongooses have incredible speed and agility when facing snakes. Additionally, they have thick and tough skin that can protect them from snake bites. Mongooses also have resistance to the deadly venom of cobras, thanks to enzymes that help them withstand snake venom.
If bitten, the effect of the snake's venom only puts the mongoose to sleep briefly. Cobras, including the highly venomous black mamba, are among the mongoose's primary prey.
Despite venomous snakes being their main diet, mongooses also eat various other prey such as insects, lizards, small mammals, and birds. These tough little mammals can be found in various regions worldwide, including Africa, Asia, and some Pacific islands. They have a wide distribution.
Mongooses are often seen as symbols of protection against venomous snakes in some cultures due to their bravery when facing these snakes.
