Where is ok to pet or scratch a macaw? Or any parrot for that matter. Is it ok to pet a parrot on the wings or on the body?
If your parrot allows or enjoys scratches, petting on the head is the best place. It is ok to touch them on the back and on the wings in moderation for the purpose of maintaining training and trust. However, it should not be excessive or prolonged. Don't pet a macaw on the tail, belly, or under the wings. On the feet is ok but serves no purpose.
Yet, there are lots of ways a parrot can enjoy petting on the head including on top, on the crest, on the cheeks, and behind the ears. Rachel my Blue and Gold Macaw sure enjoys her cuddles.
