How to Trim Aquarium Moss without the Mess

Welcome to today's video! Now that we're well past the algae/diatom phase, it's finally time to trim the Phoenix moss (Fissidens fontanus). Trimming moss in the aquarium is especially challenging because, unlike other aquarium plants, moss trimmings don't float to the top of the tank. Instead the moss trimmings sink to the bottom of the tank, and can ultimately choke out other plants. Today I'll show you my step-by-step method for trimming moss without making a huge mess in your aquarium. This method can be applied to any species of aquatic moss. I recommend recruiting an assistant if this is your first time trimming moss, but this can absolutely be done solo, if you're good with your hands. Thanks for watching, and I'll see you next time!
