Some of the most popular reptiles from the 70s, 80s, 90s and even the last decade have all but disappeared. You used to be able to find really amazing colubrid species like Russian Rat Snakes all over the place. It seemed every single reptile expo, reptile shop and even some pet stores would have Russian Rat Snakes and Korean Rat Snakes as a very common staple in their reptile section. Speaking of once popular colubrids; Gopher Snakes like Bull Snakes used to be super common and seemed to fall into a bit of a slump in terms of popularity before a more recent resurgence of the bull snake and other large colubrid species. A once cheap and common small turtle species of North America, the common musk turtle or mud turtle, sometimes called the stinkpot turtle is now making a bit of a come back but it wasn't without a major drop off in decades before this one. Fire-Bellied Toads also used to be wildly popular and maybe the most common pet frog or pet amphibian in general. Bairds Rat Snakes also are stunning and to see the popularity of Baird's Rat Snakes make a comeback in 2022 would be amazing.
