Stevie & Blueberry

Getting by with a little help from his friend!
Recently, Stevie (Budgie on the left) became fully blind and was going to be relocated from the large aviary to a smaller cage with easier access to water and food. However, on the day he was scheduled to be moved something miraculous happened…
Kelly Duker, Director of Animal Care at Foster Parrots, noticed Stevie was being fed by Blueberry (Budgie on the right), a new resident at the sanctuary. Blueberry was observed frequenting the food platter and returning to Stevie, regurgitating food for him. Blueberry has also been vocalizing to Stevie, guiding him to the water, salad, and food stations and nearby perches in the aviary. Stevie has bi-weekly weigh-ins to be sure that he is getting the right nutrition. Much to Kelly’s surprise, Stevie has been gaining weight under Blueberry’s diligent caregiving.
Kelly mentioned, “This has truly been a gift for Stevie, he can socialize with the other budgies and remain in his large aviary home. Otherwise, he would have been removed and placed into a smaller disability cage”.
