Carer Godknows watches as Sebakwe, Somopane and Bubi suddenly become alert — they’ve just crossed paths with a leopard. While leopards don’t pose a threat to an elephant herd, Sebakwe still sends a clear warning. He trumpets, flares his ears and positions himself protectively near the others, living up to his role as the dominant bull.
Godknows later spots the leopard again, first hidden beneath a bush, then making its way to a nearby tree the elephants had rubbed against. With a powerful sense of smell, the leopard sniffs the bark to gather information not visible to the eye. Then, without a sound, the leopard slips quietly back into the bush.
To cool off, the herd heads to the waterhole. Tokwe, Sebakwe and Bubi, who never misses a chance to play in the water, enjoy a splashy swim with the little ones close by. Lundi strolls past, opting for her usual dust bath over a swim. It's a peaceful end to an eventful afternoon.
