The short faced bear, also known as Arctodus was an enormous size. This documentary short shows the size comparison of the short faced bear vs the polar bear and other bears around today. The extinction of the short faced bear is unsurprising because if the short faced bear were still alive there would likely not be enough food in its habitat to sustain it. Black bears are much more suited to modern day North America and bears such as the grizzly bear are restricted to denser forested areas. A short faced bear sighting would be amazing but today, the polar bear currently reins as North America's largest carnivorous mammal.
