They are one of the most popular beginner corals in the industry. A hardy soft coral, that has become a great first introduction to coral for the new reef hobbyist.

Star Polyps are mostly available in many shades of green from pale to neons. Adding a dimension of movement and color with their star shaped polyps.

This species grows a base mat of tissue that encrusts over any type of surface. Be aware that the coral can grow across solid surfaces quite rapidly, possibly overtaking neighboring corals.

Star Polyps prefer low-moderate areas of light, but can withstand higher light intensities if given the opportunity. Star polyps are prone to detritus and algae build-up beneath their polyps, embedded onto its base mat. To prevent this buildup, place your star polyps in moderate flow.

The lower to mid portions of the aquarium complement their flow and lighting requirements.

Hobbyists have attached Star Polyp frags to the back-wall or overflow of their aquarium. It’s grass-like appearance will sway in the current. Hiding any visible equipment.

Star Polyps do not need to be fed directly and their primary food source is from zooxanthellae algae. Feedings aren’t required, though they will enjoy nutrient rich water, promoting faster growth.

As a beginner hobbyist, adding star polyps to your reef-aquarium will be a great introduction and learning experience to the world of coral.

We hope the information contained in this video was not only educational but eliminate some of the common misconceptions when it comes to keeping star polyps.
