The pangolin is one of the most trafficked animals in the world, yet it remains relatively unknown to many. These unique creatures are covered in scales made of keratin, the same substance as human nails, making them the only mammals with this type of armor. Pangolins have long, sticky tongues that can extend further than the length of their bodies, which they use to capture ants and termites. Despite their tough appearance, pangolins are shy and nocturnal, relying on their scales to curl up into a ball when threatened. Sadly, they are critically endangered due to poaching and habitat loss.
