A Brown-hooded Kingfisher was an unannounced guest in our house located on the slope of Mount Meru, (near Arusha National Park). Luckily we were able to safely rescue & release the bird into the wild.

Brown-hooded Kingfisher (Halcyon albiventris) is in the subfamily Halcyoninae, the tree of kingfishers. The natural habitat of this species of kingfisher would be woodland, grassland with trees, scrubland, and forest edge. Unlike most kingfishers (main diet of fish), this species usually forages on the ground, mainly feeding on insects, and also eating scorpions, reptiles, small birds, rodents, and sometimes fishes.
