CHOCOLATE GOURAMI: A RARE AND FASCINATING FISH :-

•Chocolate gouramis are tropical freshwater fish that are known for being kind and quiet. These fish should only be kept by owners who are prepared to provide this species the unique care it needs.

COMMON NAMES: Chocolate gourami
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Sphaerichthys osphromenoides
ADULT SIZE: 2.5 inches
LIFE EXPECTANCY: 5 to 8 years
SOCIAL : Peaceful
TANK LEVEL : All areas
MINIMUM TANK SIZE : 30 gallon
DIET : Omnivore
BREEDING MATERNAL : Mouthbrooder
CARE : Difficult
pH : 4.0 to 6.0
HARDNESS : 0.5 to 6 dGH
TEMPERATURE : 77 to 84 F

•To survive in oxygen-poor water that would kill most other species, they have a labyrinth organ that helps them to breathe atmospheric air.

TANK MATES :
•Due of its slow movement, this species is easily intimidated by or outcompeted by larger or more obnoxious tankmates for food. Since discus require similar water conditions and maintenance, several owners have discovered that they make good discus companions.

HABITAT and CARE :
•Due of their relatively low mineral concentration, these environments frequently have pH levels below 4.0. Water is extremely soft and typically black from decomposing organic matter.

DIET and FEEDING :
•The chocolate gourami is an omnivore and will eat almost everything. Along with meat-based diets, algae-based flake foods are needed. When you can, feed them little live meals. Brine shrimp that have been freeze-dried or frozen, daphnia, or mosquito larvae are all suitable choices.

GENDER DIFFERENCES :
•In general, male chocolate gouramis are larger than females and have larger more developed fins. Males have more angular dorsal fins and more distinct golden edges on their anal and caudal fins than females do. Males also have greater reddish-brown colouring than females do.
