Limnophila sessiliflora is a stem plant from South-East Asia. You can find it under popular names as dwarf ambulia, ambulia, and Asian marshweed.
Growing this plant in the aquarium is pretty easy, since it is more or less undemanding. It is a great alternative to Cabomba caroliniana. Though they are rather similar in appearance L. sessiliflora is more adaptable to a variety of conditions.
It doesn’t require a lot of light.
It will grow just fine without CO2, though it will benefit from added CO2.
It will take up most of its nutrients from the water column, so regular dosing of liquid fertilizer is a must. The plant will tell you when it needs more food. The deep green leaves will loose some of its color.
Under strong aquarium light or direct sunlight the color change to a lighter slightly reddish tone.
Like most stem plants it is most beautiful when planted in groups.
It can be propogated by cutting the stem and replanting the top. If you leave the bottom, new growth will come there as well. In good growing conditions it sends out runners and spreads across the bottom.
An easy undemanding plant, that is perfect as a pioneer plant in a new tank.
Thanks for watching!
Cheers, Ulla and Michael
