Meet Lunchbox, my Argentinian horned frog (Ceratophrys ornata). Today, Lunchbox is getting a nice bath/soak ????. Horned frogs are masters of ambush hunting. These amphibians will dig down into the substrate, sometimes with just their eyes popping out, waiting patiently for unsuspecting prey to scurry on by which point they lunge forward and attack. Horned frogs are known to catch and eat everything from other amphibians, invertebrates, small reptiles, and even birds and mammals! In fact, their jaws possess bony teeth-like points that essentially “pop” frogs. When frogs feel threatened they inflate. These “teeth” deflate them. One member of the genus Ceratophrys, Ceratophrys cornuta, is recognized as being particularly fond of eating frogs.
