Finding safe and aesthetically pleasing plants for your reptile terrarium or amphibian terrarium can be fun and exciting but might seem overwhelming if you are new to planting bioactive enclosures. So while in Costa Rica my friend Mike Tytula and I have decided to go over the Top 5 Terrarium plants to make your next bioactive build a work of art! If you're just staring out a large, broad leaf plant like a Philodendron or maybe a Monstera plant will give you the most aesthetic look and feel while also offering cover to smaller animals and providing perching options for even smaller species like Dart Frogs, Mourning Geckos or even tree frogs. Another great option if you're looking for a plant that will root on the background of your terrarium enclosure or on a log or other surfaces would be a bromeliad. Guzmania and other bromeliad species offer hiding areas to small reptiles and amphibians as well as providing an egg laying sight for frogs and other amphibians. Along with Bromeliads another great option for growing above the substrate are orchid species. Orchids look beautiful and also give cover to the subjects of your bioactive build. If you're looking for a plant that is very robust and grows in soil you may want to consider Snake Plant. Mother in Law's Tongue is a taller, stiffer plant. My Crested Geckos love hanging out on the sturdy stalks of the snake plant in their enclosure. Of course we can't do a plants video without talking about Pothos. Pothos vines and grows like crazy. This is one of the easiest, cheapest and most easily propagated plants you can find!
