The vaquita, also known as the "panda of the sea," and "little cow" in Spanish, is the smallest and rarest marine mammal in the world. Found in the northern Gulf of California, Mexico, approximately 10 individuals are remaining, making them critically endangered. Vaquitas are social creatures with distinctive dark circles around their eyes, sharp lines down their snouts, and a unique bump on their forehead. They communicate using a variety of clicks and whistles, as well as body language and physical contact. Despite their incredible adaptations, these beautiful creatures are on the brink of extinction due to illegal fishing practices.
What can we do if anything to protect and preserve the vaquita before it’s too late? Every action counts in the fight to save this incredible species.
