These pups are facing death. A hungry cobra has caught their scent — and the only thing standing between it and the babies is their father, a squirrel. But against a yellow cobra, he doesn’t stand a chance. Luckily, his neighbor happens to be a snake hunter. Hearing the desperate cries, the mongoose rushes out of its den to help. The cobra rears up, ready to defend itself, but it can’t withstand the mongoose’s lightning-fast strikes — and none of its own attacks land. Fortunately for the cobra, the mongoose isn’t hunting for food today. It’s only there to protect the squirrels — and once the danger is gone, it lets the snake live. This isn’t the mongoose’s only act of heroism, though. Animals like squirrels and meerkats often choose to build their nests near mongooses, hoping that when the time comes, their fearless neighbor will stand guard once again.
