The marine protected area at Gowrie Cove, on the north-east tip of Magnetic Island, has escaped damage from coral bleaching event of March 2022 and now has some of the most biologically significant coral communities in the whole Cleveland Bay region.
Here we present some footage to highlight the biological and aesthetic value of the coral community at Gowrie Cove. As part of the MARST Project, the Coral Sea Foundation has created a non-intrusive photo-monitoring transect at this site, using natural features to orient the survey direction and delimit the transect. We welcome citizen science photo contributions to this effort, please email us info@coralseafoundation.net for more details of the site and how you can contribute.
