This is a low-tech, no-filter Walstad aquarium that operates as a natural ecosystem. Plants oxygenate the water through photosynthesis and absorb harmful waste like ammonia and nitrates. Maintaining a high plant-to-livestock ratio is essential—more plants improve water quality by absorbing waste, while fewer livestock reduce excess nutrients, keeping the ecosystem balanced.
