How many plants did I use in this super simple Walstad aquarium? ❤️????
The plants used in this aquarium are easy to care for and hardy, requiring neither strong light nor CO2.
For filtering and oxygenation, I use pothos, red root floaters, dwarf water lettuce, and pearlweed.
Additionally, I added two air plants at the top of the aquarium for aesthetic purposes.
This is a low-tech, no-filter Walstad aquarium, where plants naturally filter the water and enrich it with oxygen. Maintaining a high plant-to-livestock ratio is essential. More plants help absorb waste and improve water quality, while fewer animals prevent excess nutrients from accumulating.
I am using this aquarium as a temporary grow-out tank for wild guppy fry. The fry will be moved to a larger aquarium once they grow bigger.
