The Limnophila sessiliflora and Tiger Red Lotus have grown significantly and are now blocking light from reaching the dwarf hair grass in the foreground. It’s time for a trim to allow more light to penetrate, helping the bottom plants grow better.

This aquarium is built following the Walstad method, which takes a natural approach to fishkeeping by using a soil substrate and plenty of live plants to create a balanced ecosystem. With the plants taking care of water filtration and oxygenation, there’s no need for filters or air pumps, which keeps the setup low-maintenance. A high ratio of plants to livestock is essential. With abundant of plants absorb waste and improve water quality, while fewer animals help prevent nutrient overload.
